Former Motherwell midfielder agrees to join Hamilton Accies

Hamilton Accies have agreed a deal to sign former Motherwell midfielder Barry Maguire.

Lanarkshire Live Sport understands the Championship side have managed to tie down a deal for the player, amid interest from league rivals Raith Rovers and Premiership side St Johnstone.

The 26-year-old, who started out in Hamilton's academy before joining the Steelmen's youth setup in 2014, held talks with Accies last month about crossing the Lanarkshire divide and a deal has now been struck to bring him back to the club where he started out.

His signing could be announced by the club later this week along with former Ayr United goalkeeper Charlie Albinson, who has agreed a two-year deal at New Douglas Park.

Maguire spent the second half of last season on loan at Dundee and this term he has been on loan at English National League side Kidderminster, with his Fir Park deal expiring at the end of last month.

Meanwhile, Accies boss John Rankin is interested in signing winger Steven Bradley, who was released by the Lions today. However, it is understood there are some stumbling blocks and a deal is yet to be completed for the 22-year-old who was previously at Hibs.

A statement from Livingston read: "We can confirm that attacker Steven Bradley has left the club. An agreement has been reached between the club and the player to terminate Steven’s existing contract and allow him to move on from the football club.

"Steven joined the club from Hibernian in December 2022, having spent the year at League of Ireland Premiership side Dundalk. He would make 36 appearance for the Lions, scoring three times. We wish Steven all the very best for the future."
