Girl, 14, charged with attempted murder and possession of a 'bladed article' in school

A 14-year-old girl has been charged with attempted murder after an incident in Stockport.

The incident happened in the Stockport Road area of the town on Thursday, May 2, Greater Manchester Police said. The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with attempted murder.

No details on the victim have been provided at this stage. The teenager has also been charged with making threats to kill, possession of a bladed article in a school and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Court documents state the school is also in Stockport. The girl was remanded into custody.

She was due to appear at the Youth Court at Manchester Magistrates' Court today (May 15). Police said officers will be patrolling the area on Stockport Road over the coming days 'to offer reassurance'.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Wrench, from GMP's Stockport district said: "I understand this news will cause concern amongst the community, but we will have local officers in the area in the coming days to offer reassurance. We continue to work closely with the local authority and partner agencies to ensure safeguarding measures are in place."
