Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow six shots off the lead in Las Vegas

Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow fired matching level-par rounds of 72 in the first round of the T-Mobile Match Play in Las Vegas, although their scores were recorded in very different fashions.

Maguire's par-fest featured just one birdie and a solitary bogey, with the only blemish in her round coming on the par-four second hole and the birdie achieved on the par-four 12th.

Meadow's effort was a more topsy-turvy affair. The 32-year-old from Jordanstown also came a cropper on the second hole, where she registered a double-bogey, with bogeys recorded on the seventh, 10th, 11th and 15th holes offset by birdies on the fourth, fifth sixth, 12th, 17th and 18th holes.

Sei Young Kim made five birdies on the front nine to grab the overall lead at Shadow Creek Golf Course.

The South Korean sits on six under, leaving her one stroke ahead of Rose Zhang and Danielle Kang.

Australia's Minjee Lee, Japan's Yuka Saso and Sweden's Anna Nordqvist are tied for fourth on three under.

Denmark's Nanna Koerstz Madsen and Germany's Caroline Masson share seventh on two under, with seven players, including New Zealand's Lydia Ko, tied for ninth on one under.

Wednesday and Thursday feature stroke play, with a cut to the top 65 players and ties after 36 holes. The field will be cut to the top eight following stroke play on Friday. Saturday morning will begin the single-elimination match-play bracket, with the semi-finals taking place on Saturday afternoon and the championship match contested on Sunday.

Kim capped her early birdie binge with three in a row from the sixth hole to the eighth. On the back nine, she had two birdies and her lone bogey of the day at the par-four 14th hole.

"The front nine I didn't expect I play that well," she said. "Pretty solid
