India will take on Bangladesh in their T20 World Cup warm-up fixture in the USA on June 1, the International Cricket Council announced on Friday. The venue and time of India's fixture is yet to be announced. Seventeen of the 20 teams will play warm-up games slated from May 27 till June 1 across the USA and Trinidad and Tobago, the ICC stated. South Africa will be playing an intra-squad match on May 29 in Florida.
Indian cricket has started its search for the next national team coach with Rahul Dravid’s tenure coming to an end following the T20 World Cup in June.
New Zealand coach Gary Stead is confident of having a fully fit squad when the team departs for the Caribbean for next month's Twenty20 World Cup with Finn Allen and Devon Conway making good progress in their recovery from injuries.
The race for the next Indian cricket team coach is getting interesting. The tenure of the current coach Rahul Dravid ends with the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will run till the end of June. BCCI, according to its advertisement, plans to have a new coach take over by July 1. The person will be in charge till the end of 2027. Basically, upon him will be the responsibility to guide the team at the 2025 Champions Trophy and the 2027 ODI World Cup. Several reports have claimed that Indian cricket team, after a long time, may have an overseas coach.
The position of the Indian team's head coach is up for grabs with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in search of a top candidate to replace current chief Rahul Dravid. With his current term ending after June, Dravid is unwilling to continue as the head coach. Dravid was handpicked as head coach in 2021 by the then BCCI President Sourav Ganguly. His initial term came to an end after the ODI World Cup last year, but the board and the former Indian captain agreed to extend the contract till June 2024.
There has been a lot of chatter around BCCI potentially approaching former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming to succeed Rahul Dravid as the Indian cricket team head coach. Fleming is currently the Chennai Super Kings head coach and during his tenure, the team has won a record-equaling five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles. The Indian Express reported that BCCI consider Fleming as a 'suitable candidate' due to his man management skills and pedigree. However, CSK have denied any such rumours and CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that there has been no such communication between Fleming and the franchise till now. "I have not heard anything like this. There has been no communication from Stephen Fleming to CSK either," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Sports Now.
The BCCI on Monday released an advertisement for the appointment of a new Indian cricket team (men's) head coach, who will be taking charge from July 1. The tenure of the current coach Rahul Dravid ends with the T20 World Cup 2024, which will run till June-end. According to reports, Dravid is unlikely to seek or get an extension. The tenure of the next coach will runs till December 31, 2027. It effectively means that the coach will remain till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
