'Mitchell Marsh Will Be Fit To Bowl In T20 World Cup': Australia Head Coach Provides Big Update

Australia cricket team head coach Andrew McDonald revealed that the T20 World Cup skipper Mitchell Marsh is not fit to bowl until the final week before the squad heads to the Caribbean, but will be fully fit for the tournament's opening game. Marsh has been out of action since the April 3, IPL 2024 clash for Delhi Capitals due to a right hamstring strain. He flew back home to Perth from India to begin his recovery. In the next two weeks, Marsh will spend the first of two three-day pre-tournament training camps in Brisbane with members of Australia's squad who are not playing in the IPL, before the team departs for the Caribbean on May 25 for the mega event.

"Is Virat Kohli Going To Win You T20 World Cup?": Australia Great Asked BCCI, Now Has His Response

While star India batter Virat Kohli's place in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 looked like a certainty, former Australia opener Matthew Hayden had urged BCCI chief selector to make some tough calls ahead of the announcement. In the ongoing season of IPL, Kohli has been in fine form as he is currently the highest run-scorer. Despite being criticised for his slow strike-rate, the RCB star has amassed a total of 500 runs in just 10 matches. His tally includes four half-centuries and a ton. He played a crucial role in RCB's memorable victory against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, where he scored 70 off 44 balls.

Australia Drop Big Names For T20 World Cup, IPL Superstar Snubbed Too

Veteran batter Steve Smith, young batting sensation Jake Fraser-McGurk, experienced seamer Jason Behrendorff and all-rounder Matt Short all missed out as 2021 T20 World Cup champions named their squad for the marquee short-format tournament in the West Indies and the USA from June 1 onwards. Left-arm spinner Ashton Agar won a recall despite not having played a T20I since the last T20 World Cup on Australian soil in 2022, while all-rounders Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green also earned a place in the final squad despite some indifferent form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), as per the ICC.
