BCCI Reaches Out To Ricky Ponting For India Head Coach Job. Report Highlights 2 Obstacles

The position of the Indian team's head coach is up for grabs with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in search of a top candidate to replace current chief Rahul Dravid. With his current term ending after June, Dravid is unwilling to continue as the head coach. Dravid was handpicked as head coach in 2021 by the then BCCI President Sourav Ganguly. His initial term came to an end after the ODI World Cup last year, but the board and the former Indian captain agreed to extend the contract till June 2024.

CSK Break Silence On BCCI Approaching Stephen Fleming For India Head Coach Job

There has been a lot of chatter around BCCI potentially approaching former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming to succeed Rahul Dravid as the Indian cricket team head coach. Fleming is currently the Chennai Super Kings head coach and during his tenure, the team has won a record-equaling five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles. The Indian Express reported that BCCI consider Fleming as a 'suitable candidate' due to his man management skills and pedigree. However, CSK have denied any such rumours and CEO  Kasi Viswanathan said that there has been no such communication between Fleming and the franchise till now. "I have not heard anything like this. There has been no communication from Stephen Fleming to CSK either," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Sports Now.

"At The Big Stage...": Sourav Ganguly On Rohit Sharma's Dismal Form Ahead Of T20 World Cup

It has been a disappointing IPL 2024 campaign for Rohit Sharma as the Indian cricket team skipper has struggled to score big for Mumbai Indians till now. The veteran batter has managed to score 349 runs in 13 matches with an average of just over 29 and a strike rate of around 145. The lack of form has been quite harmful for Mumbai Indians who have won just 4 out of their 13 matches and were also the first side to crash out of the IPL 2024 playoffs race. "Have To Evolve": Ravichandran Ashwin Stands Against Rohit Sharma On 'Impact Player' Rule

The "Impact Player" rule might have come in for sharp criticism in the ongoing IPL, but former India coach Ravi Shastri and senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin have backed it, stating that it leads to more close finishes. The rule, implemented in the competition last season, has been a topic of debate this edition, with some experts and current players saying that it will make all-rounders redundant. "When any new rule comes in, there will be people who will try to justify why that's not right," Shastri said.
