Arnaud Bodart 'wanted' for Rangers transfer as new Ibrox scouting guru opens contacts book

Rangers are reportedly considering a summer swoop for Standard Liege goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart.

Since the arrival of under Philippe Clement and recruitment chief Nils Koppen there has been a scouting overhaul with Anthony Galinski the latest to join as the club's new lead international scout to replace the outgoing Andreas Fehse who left Ibrox for a move to Nottingham Forest. The former Royal Antwerp guru looks to have quickly tapped into the Belgian market with Sudinfo stating that 26-year-old Bodart is on the agenda.

The Liege No. 1 is approaching the final year of his contract with the club said to be open to a sale if a new contract cannot be agreed. They are said to want €4m (£3.4m) to part with the Belgium call-up. It is noted that Rangers have "not yet made an official offer" but that a bid from the Scottish Premiership side is expected to arrive soon.

Jack Butland was linked with a return to the English Premier League in January after an impressive season since arriving at Rangers as a free agent in the summer. With his form putting him in Gareth Southgate's thoughts for the Euro 2024 England squad, it's likely suitors will be lining up for the 31-year-old in the summer.

Bodart could offer competition for Butland with Robby McCrorie and Jon McLaughlin failing to challenge the shotsstopper for the No. 1 spot. He could also be a contingency plan should a big-money offer come in from south of the border.
