Ben Johnson 'holds' Rangers transfer talks as Philippe Clement targets West Ham right back

Rangers have reportedly opened talks with West Ham full back Ben Johnson over a potential move to Ibrox when is contract runs out next summer.

The 24-year-old, who is a product of the Hammers youth academy, has scored two goals in 109 appearances for the Premier League club since making his debut in 2018. Johnson is also a former England U21 international and was a part of the squad that lifted the European Championships last year.

But with the right back now into the final three months of his contract at the Olympic Stadium, The Athletic report that Philippe Clement has opened dialogue with the player to bring him to Govan on a free transfer in June. It comes just days after fresh reports that Gers skipper James Tavernier is being eyed up for a Rangers reunion by Steven Gerrard and Al-Ettiaq, with the Saudi Arabia Pro League side also interested in signing his teammate Connor Goldson.

The Light Blues are however likely to face competition for Johnson's signature, with Crystal Palace and Leeds United also believed to be interested in the player. Wolves saw a bid of £1million turned down for the right back by David Moyes' side during the January transfer window.
