Dundee to foot Sky 'bill' for Rangers fiasco as SPFL to demand cash back as part of pitch probe

The SPFL are set to be hit with a six figure bill from Sky in the wake of the dens Park pitch fiasco. And league chiefs will make Dundee pony up to cover the cost.

Rangers are finally set to play their away fixture in the City of Discovery on Wednesday night at the THIRD attempt. St Johnstone;s McDiarmid Park was on stand by, but the previously sidden Dens pitch passed a Tuesday morning pitch inspection and the game will go ahead there as planned.

And the Scottish Sun reports that the league governing body will tap the Dark Blues for up to £100,000 in costs, which broadcasters Sky are claiming back after the first to call offs. Dee supremo John Nelms is set to face the music on thursday as the SPFL disciplinary hearing into the FIVE postponements caused by the Dens pitch over the course of the 2023/24 campaign.

Twice, Sky sent an army of staff to Tayside to man their live coverage operation, and twice it was all for nothing as the game proved to be a washout. The original game in March was binned just 90 minutes before kick-off, with everyone in place before officials deemed the surface unplayable.

Dundee had already booked McDiarmid as a back up plan. But now they may have to fork out even more with the SPFL set to try and pass on the Sky costs to the club. Tony Docherty's side secured their top six status at the weekend and it's perhaps just as well given the financial consequences of the Rangers game debacle.
