Erin Cuthbert crowned Scottish Football Writers' Women's International Player of the Year

Erin Cuthbert has been named Women's International Player of the Year by the Scottish Football Writers' Association.

Chelsea star Cuthbert was one of the stars of the show on Tuesday night as Scotland beat Slovakia at Hampden during a qualifying match for Euro 2025. The game's only goal came via a free-kick from Cuthbert that Sophie Howard converted.

The 25 year old midfielder, who scored in a friendly against Northern Ireland last July and a Nations League square-off with Belgium in December, now boasts an impressive tally of 22 goals in 67 international games. Cuthbert is resolute in her ambition to bag more silverware, following a stellar season with Chelsea which saw them winning both the league and cup. She is set to return to the international side when Scotland aim to maintain their unbeaten start to their B2 campaign in a match against Israel.

She succeeds two-time winner Caroline Weir and the former Glasgow City star expressed her gratitude, stating: "It's lovely to be recognised, it's nice to have that recognition for my achievements individually, but it's a team sport and we have to now kick on and be successful and get Scotland to a major tournament."

Cuthbert found herself in illustrious company on the shortlist, alongside the likes of Scotland's captain Rachel Corsie and Nicola Docherty. This prestigious award will be handed over at the SFWA Player of the Year dinner scheduled for Sunday, 19 May, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.
