Georgia's Kirby Smart to become college football's highest-paid coach with contract extension

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract extension that will make him the highest-paid coach in college football.

According to reports, the three-time SEC Coach of the Year's newest deal includes a $1.75 million raise and bumps his annual salary to $13 million per year, with bonuses up to $1.55 million.

Smart signed a 10-year contract with Georgia in 2021 after winning a second national championship that totaled $112.5 million. The latest contract keeps him in Athens through 2033.

Since Smart took over as head coach of the Bulldogs in 2016, the team has won two national titles (2021 and 2022) and two SEC titles. His overall record sits at 94-16, highlighted by a 42-2 run over the past three seasons.

Athletic Director Josh Brooks was also extended by the university, which announced his contract was extended for an additional year through 2030, bumping his annual salary to $1,275,000, increasing by $100,000 each year of the agreement, with potential bonuses depending on the team's performance.

Last season, Georgia finished No. 1 in the SEC East with a record of 13-1, losing only to Alabama. The Bulldogs will open the upcoming season on Aug. 31 against the Clemson Tigers.
