House fire closes busy road into Cardiff city centre
Fire crews were called to an early morning fire that started in the bedroom of a house near Cardiff city centre. Ninian Park Road in Riverside was closed in both directions from Kitchener Road to Tudor Street on Thursday morning (May 9) as fire crews worked at the scene.
The alarm was raised just before 7am as crews were called to what was described as a "well-developed" fire in the bedroom of a property on the scene.
A statement from South Wales Fire and Rescue said the cause of the fire was believed to be "discarded cigarettes". They said: "Two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one safety jet, two extension ladders and further equipment was used to tackle the blaze."
Pictures from the scene showed fire crews at the scene, who left just after 8am.
The road was closed with cars and buses being diverted during the morning rush hour.
