LIVE: Ripponden Road closed in both directions amid 'serious' incident - latest updates

There is a large emergency service response in Oldham this evening (18 May) following reports of a collision involving a motorbike.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene on Ripponden Road at around 5pm today.

One fire engine attended to assist with the incident that involved a motorcycle. It is not yet clear whether there are any injuries.

It is understood that the the road remains closed as officers from Greater Manchester Police continue with their enquiries.

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for further information.

In a post on their Facebook page, GMP Saddleworth and Lees said: "Our officers are dealing with a serious road traffic collision which happened earlier this afternoon on Ripponden Road in #Oldham.

"There are road closures in place and it is advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

"Thank you for your cooperation."

The Manchester Evening News has received reports of an air ambulance at the scene, along with three ambulances.

Inrix, a traffic monitoring service, has said Ripponden Road (A672) is closed in both directions.

Posting on their website, they said: "A672 Oldham Road in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to incident from M62 J22 (Rishworth Moor) to A640 (Denshaw Crossroads) Denshaw Crossroads."
