Man, 36, charged after gunshots fired at house in Oldham

A man has been charged by police after gunshots were fired at a house in Oldham. Police were called to reports of a firearms discharge at a house on Prince Edward Avenue at around 1am on Tuesday (May 7).

An investigation was launched by Greater Manchester Police into the incident before two men and a woman were tracked down and arrested in Chester.

Stefan Ion, 36, of Washwood Heath Road, Birmingham, has since been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and affray. The other man and a woman have since been bailed in connection with the incident.

Police and forensics remained at the scene of the alleged shooting throughout Tuesday, with a cordon in place and evidence markers placed in the road amid investigations.

Detective Inspector Clare Harrison from our Oldham district said: “We are committed to taking firearms off our streets and you can be confident that if you report any information relating to suspected possession or offences, we will take immediate action as we continue to ensure Oldham is a safe place to live and work.

“We have specialist officers across the force who are proactively tackling firearms enabled criminality, and your local neighbourhood officers will continue to be in the area for community reassurance. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to them.”
