Man City suffer Ederson injury blow during Nottingham Forest game

Ederson became the latest Manchester City injury concern as he was replaced at half-time of their clash with Nottingham Forest.

The City goalkeeper had been unconvincing in the first half, failing to connect with a number of corners. Ederson was also lucky not to concede a penalty as he missed a cross and collided with Willy Boly - but the ball had already been headed away, and referee Simon Hooper instead awarded a free kick in City's favour.

Ederson stayed down for treatment following that incident, and still looked uncomfortable once play resumed, holding his left shoulder. He later dropped a cross just before the break and was relieved to see Murillo somehow fail to find the target.

At half-time with City one up courtesy of Josko Gvardiol's header, Stefan Ortega was introduced for Ederson, handing City another injury concern on top of the illness that kept both Phil Foden and Ruben Dias out. Erling Haaland was back in the squad after his muscle injury but was only on the bench.

Ortega has made 16 appearances for City this term, with the last coming in the FA Cup semi-final win over Chelsea. He is in line to play in the final against Manchester United next month regardless of whether Ederson is fit.

Speaking about Ortega last month, Guardiola hailed the German stopper. "The way he's played in Carabao Cup and FA Cup so far," said the City chief. "Even in the Champions League when he played against Dortmund. We were qualified but fighting for the first position. He’s an exceptional goalkeeper. Exceptional."
