Manchester United handed dream Erik ten Hag replacement scenario amid sack decision

Manchester United could find themselves in an unwanted battle with some of Europe's biggest teams when the 2023/24 season comes to an end.

United are on course for their worst-ever Premier League campaign under Erik ten Hag after just 16 wins from 35 games. Losing in the manner they did at Chelsea, fortunately scrapping past Coventry City in the FA Cup, failing to beat 19th-placed Burnley at home and being thrashed 4-0 by Crystal Palace are just four of the low-points experienced this season.

With three games remaining, Ten Hag's side face the possibility of having no European football for next campaign. Calls for Ten Hag to be sacked have accelerated after the loss at Selhurst Park but there seems to be no sudden movement by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The INEOS founder has made changes in all areas of the club since his minority takeover and the head coach role has been tipped to be the next change. United are operating under the working assumption Ten Hag will remain in charge next season although the Manchester Evening News understands Ratcliffe is "not completely sold" on the Dutchman.

Should they decide to part ways with Ten Hag, the hunt for his replacement could be difficult. Liverpool and Bayern Munich are two of Europe's elite looking for a new manager for next season.
