Murder probe launched after man, 30, killed following 'altercation at traffic light'

A murder investigation has been launched after a 30-year-old man was killed following an 'altercation at a traffic light' in south Manchester.

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene of the incident on Kingsway near Didsbury just before 1.40am this morning (Tuesday). The 30-year-old man was rushed to hospital from the scene but he tragically died of his injuries.

Detectives believe he was 'assaulted' though no further details on the nature of the attack have been released at this stage. An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into police custody.

The victim's family are being supported by specialist officers, police said. Any witnesses, or anyone with information, is being urged to come forward.

Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: "We understand that an incident of such seriousness like this will cause shock to the local community and further afield, and I want to provide reassurance that an investigation has been launched to
