The new conditions new Manchester United signings should agree to

The closest someone has got to signing a Manchester United contract this season is Jurgen Klopp.

"Is that for me?" he asked when he stepped onto the dais in the Old Trafford press conference room. The Liverpool coach needed a little levity after Amad's pulsating 121st-minute winner in the FA Cup quarter-final.

The longest expiry date in a United player's contract is four years, excluding plus-one options. Six players - Alejandro Garnacho, Mason Mount, Andre Onana, Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund - are tied to United until 2028. Kobbie Mainoo has a one-year option to take him to 2028.

Dalot cost a prudent £19m in 2018 and his worth is at least double that, so he is not exempted. Imagine the outcry if United put a 'not for sale' tag on Mount or Rashford.

There was also plenty of breathing space between Ronaldo's incendiary interview on TalkTV and when Erik ten Hag held court with journalists in Cadiz at United's winter training camp.

Dalot, 25, has started in 43 of
