Wayne Rooney lands new job as Manchester United legend reunited with two former team-mates

Wayne Rooney has landed a new job as a pundit on Gary Neville's YouTube channel, 'The Overlap'.

Launched in April 2021, The Overlap features Neville predominantly conducting interviews with former and current players. In more recent times, the channel has started fan debates and a weekly sit-down chat with a special guest.

Roy Keane, Jill Scott, Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright are the four ex-footballers who regularly appear on The Overlap's weekly show, though they are now set to be joined by Rooney.

Confirming this change to the setup of the podcast, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter to share the news. He said: "Breaking news in the world of football, here we go! Manchester United, Everton and England legend, Wayne Rooney, has signed an agreement with The Overlap. The deal is completed and signed. Rooney will join his friends and ex-team-mates Gary Neville, Roy Keane and the rest of the team and will be making his debut very soon."

Providing his own reaction to this development, Rooney tweeted: "I’m excited to announce that I will be joining my good mate @GNev2 and the team at @WeAreTheOverlap to appear on the channel across some of their brilliant shows on YouTube and the podcast. I can’t wait to get started - head over and subscribe now!"

Rooney is currently taking time out from management, having been sacked as manager of Birmingham City in January after only 15 games in charge. Prior to this, the ex-United striker held coaching roles at DC United and Derby County.
