Week 28 matches hold Wednesday as NPFL goes on break

Postpones Rivers United’s next three games
The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) has shifted week 28 matches billed for this weekend to Wednesday.

Although NPFL gave no reason for the shift in date, it is not unconnected with Rivers United’s Confederation game holding this weekend.

A source at the league body said that NPFL’s Chief Executive Officer, Davidson Owumi, informed the workers during their last meeting that the games have been moved to Wednesday, April 3, adding that the clubs have been notified of the latest development.

The NPFL had earlier notified Rivers United that their Week 27, 28 and 29 games against Sunshine Stars, Katsina United and Abia Warriors respectively have been moved to allow the Port Harcourt club to concentrate on their CAF Confederation Cup game against USM Alger this weekend.

The game will hold at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo, on Sunday.

The NPFL, which also notified the three other teams of the changes in dates, said new dates for the games would be announced soon.

After 27 matches, Enugu Rangers lead the NPFL table with 48 points, one above second-placedLobi Stars and three better than third and fourth-placed Remo Stars and Enyimba, who are separated by goal difference .

The star games of week 28 will hold in Aba, where Enyimba will host Kano Pillars and Lagos, venue of Sporting Lagos clash with Lobi Stars.

Leaders, Rangers International will host Sunshine Stars, Bayelsa will be at home to relegation-threatened Heartland of Owerri, while Gombe United will host Remo Stars.
