Ireland defender Shane Duffy charged with drink-driving

Norwich City centre-half and Republic of Ireland international Shane Duffy has been charged with drink-following a two-vehicle crash.

The 32-year-old was arrested in Hethersett, near Norwich, on Friday night.

Norfolk Police confirmed emergency services attended the scene where no injuries occurred.

Duffy was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Duffy will now appear at Norwich Magistrates' Court on 2 July, with Norwich City confirming their knowledge of the incident.

"The club is in the process of considering the matter internally in accordance with its own disciplinary procedure," a short statement read.

Norwich face Leeds United in the Championship play-off semi-finals on Sunday, with the first leg at Carrow Road.

Duffy has featured 36 times for the Canaries this season since joining on a free transfer from Fulham last summer.

The Derry native made his international debut in 2014 against Costa Rica and has amassed 60 caps for the Boys in Green, the last coming in Stephen Kenny's final game in charge against New Zealand last November.
