Jadon Sancho's dream move earns Manchester United unexpected FFP windfall

Manchester United will be handed a welcome financial boost thanks to Jadon Sancho reaching the Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund claimed a 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night in the second leg of their semi-final, with Mats Hummels scoring the only goal of the contest. The Bundesliga club had already held a 1-0 advantage from the first leg and progressed to the final with a 2-0 aggregate victory, where they will meet either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium.

Sancho starred for Dortmund in the first-leg win over PSG and will now be looking ahead to the Champions League final next month. During the January transfer window, United loaned Sancho to Dortmund - the club they originally signed him from for £73million in 2021 - for the second half of the 2023/24 season.

The first half of the campaign saw Sancho make just three appearances for United. The winger was banished from the first team last September following a public fallout with Erik ten Hag, with Sancho claiming he had been made a "scapegoat". Since moving to Dortmund, the 24-year-old has been a key figure in Edin Terzic's side, and the club's progression to the Champions League final will now hand United a welcome financial windfall.

As part of the loan deal, United received a €3.5m (£3m) sum up front from Dortmund, with the possibility of a further €4m (£3.4m) in add-ons.
