Roy Keane delivers glowing verdict when asked about Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane praised youngster Kobbie Mainoo ahead of Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City at Wembley.

Mainoo, as expected, was named in the starting line-up, being joined in midfield by Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes. McTominay was recalled to the starting line-up after Casemiro was forced to slot in at centre-back to cover the absence of Willy Kambwala.

The Brazilian has been an almost ever-present figure alongside Mainoo in midfield in recent months, with the United youngster often outlining how much he has enjoyed playing alongside the former Real Madrid man. However, it is the Stockport-born midfielder who has been the better performer.

As a result, the 19-year-old is in contention to make the England squad for this summer's European Championship in Germany. And Keane, who believes he could be a starter for the Three Lions, has hailed his all-round game, particularly his tidiness in possession.

Keane told ITV: "Well, he certainly lacks physicality. He is not six foot. He is smart, he's neat and tidy, he's had a brilliant few months. There is a chance he is going to go with England [to Euro 2024], and maybe be in the starting XI.

"He has done brilliant in the last few months. We have seen all parts of his play; he's smart, the way he covers [ground] and the way he has got a couple of important goals.

"I think what helps him today is that he has got Scott McTominay next to him. He is a little bit more athletic and will certainly help him out in there.

"He has had a brilliant few months and hopefully he keeps that up."
