The Man City summer transfer that has sparked protests amid a potential UEFA hearing

Girona manager Michel still harbours hope of keeping Manchester City-bound winger Savinho next season.

But Savinho's success in Spain is not a usual City Football Group deal, with three sister clubs becoming embroiled in a complex transfer that has already sparked protests at the player's parent club Troyes. With Savinho firing Girona into the Champions League, City may now have to face a potential UEFA hearing into the City Football Group ownership model.

City are expected to complete a deal to sign Savinho - or Savio as he is also known - from sister club Troyes, from whom he is on loan at Girona.

Savinho continued a wonderful season by helping Girona beat Barcelona this weekend to leapfrog them into second place in La Liga and secure a Champions League spot for next season. The 20-year-old's classy assist late on secured a 4-2 win over their Catalan rivals, securing a top-four spot after an incredible season that started with an unlikely title challenge and has also included a double over Barca.

Speaking after that game, Michel was discussing his best players and who he hopes to keep next season. On Savinho, he said: "Hopefully Savinho… He is the best player I have ever had. I don’t know if he is a Troyes or Manchester City player, but I know he is not our player. We’ll discuss it later.”

He had previously said in February: "He’s a player who’s on loan right now, but he also has it in his head that another year here would be very good for his development.”
