U20 Leinster hurling: Offaly blitz Laois, Dublin deny Wexford

Offaly 1-28 Laois 2-09

A 15-point haul from Adam Screeney propelled Offaly into a Leinster U20 semi-final at the expense of Laois.

In truth, the hosts put the game to bed in the opening half at O'Connor Park, reeling off eight of the opening nine points and never looked back.

Screeney was popping scores from play and placed balls, with Shane Rigney also showing up well.

A Screeney free in the 26th minute pushed the lead out to a dozen points, but the O'Moore County raised a green flag through Cormac Byrne to put a a slightly better look on the scoreline as they trailed 0-18 to 1-04 at the interval.

Upon the resumption it was Laois who again rattled the back of the net, with Byrne picking off his second goal, but four successive Screeney points – including three frees – halted any Laois momentum before Dan Bourke piled on the misery with a 53rd-minute goal.

Offaly’s Alex Kavanagh rounded off the scoring in a comfortable win.

Dublin 0-18 Wexford 0-14

Dublin denied Wexford and joined Offaly in the provincial U20 semi-finals after an assured second-half display at Parnell Park.

The hosts led by the narrowest of margins at the interval, with Diarmuid Ó Dúlaing's set-piece prowess complemented by the scoring acumen of Neil Hogan.

Wexford free-taker Sean Rowley was responsible for six of his side's first-half points as they trailed the Metropolitans by 0-09 to 0-08 at halfway.

The two sides traded scores after the restart, but Dublin then forged a four-point buffer they would not relinquish, with a quickfire Ó Dúlaing treble and a point from Ollie Gaffney proving decisive.
